Fender Tag decoding

In order to decode a tag - you need to keep everything in perspective. On older 60's mopars like the 68 tag above you need to use the rows of numbers and letters as a guide. Tags read from the bottom Left to the top right even newer ones do that - don't ask me why they just do - ok.

Bottom row of this 68 tag.

PP = Plymouth VIP

23 = 2dr hardtop

41 = 318 2bbl engine

5 = Auto Transmission

53 = 8:25X14 White sidewall tires

818 = Scheduled to be made on Thursday August 18th 1967

193128 = Order number - includes dealer code and sequence number - Invoice #.

Go up one row. This row use the line of numbers and read the number or letter under each one. The first 1-8 are all related to mouldings and trim.

0 = beltline trim

6 = Left Outside mirror

8 = padded sun visors

next is

AX = 1 = 2.76 rear axel

TRM = P = Premium interior, 2 = Bench seat, F = green color

PNT = P = Black painted top, T = Medium Green body, 2 = two tone paint job.

Next line from the bottom A-Z codes - read under the Capitol letter

N8 = Rear window defogger

R1 = Standard AM radio

X2 = Glass is tinted windshield only

Next (last) row

Small letters a - z

Read under the letter.

h7 = Hood mounted turn signals

The last stamped number "8" undet the "y" is an add-on - done on the line not scheduled and is something to do with the sales and delivery special instructions - this was an early production car and was probabaly a promotional special of some sort.

Soooo ... if you wanted me to decode this tag and could not take a photo of it - send me or post the information like this

1968 fender tage - Bottom line PP23 41 5 53 818 193128

Next line up - 3=0, 6=6, 7=8, AX=1, TRM=P2F, PNT=BT2

Next line up - N=8, R=1, X=2

Top line - h=7, y=8(stamped)

That is all in need notice how the upper two rows are all one letter (cap or small) and a code under it.

Now I hope you see how to decode the tag - you need a resource to give you the codes associated with each line of the tag and that would be the books by Galen Govier.
