Hydraulic pressure for power steering, for transmission clutch and band actuation, and for theengine variable-nozzle actuator is provided by one pump in a single hydraulic system. Oil fromthis system (Type A Suffix A transmission oil) also is used for lubri- cation of engine, accessorydrive, reduction gear, and transmission. The system contains an oil-to-air cooler, and thetransmission oil pan is the sump for the system. The central hydraulic pump, adapted from a 0. 96cu in. displacement power steering pump, is mounted on the lower left rear face of the engine andis driven off the rear of the regenerator drive gear box. This single pump replaces four pumpsnormally used in a car with comparable power assists--namely engine oil pump, steering pump,and two transmission pumps.
